The story
Born in South Africa, now part of Dometic
Front Runner is a South African company. Dometic says the Front Runner story officially started in 2000, and for decades its racks and gear have travelled across Africa, through deserts and over mountains.
In May 2021 Dometic, the Swedish outdoor company, agreed to buy Front Runner. Front Runner kept its headquarters and factory near Johannesburg.
In August 2026 Dometic launched the Front Runner Series, starting with the new Slimline 3 roof rack. Every product in the series is tested in South Africa before it goes on sale.
Dometic Front Runner Series products combine Swedish innovation with design and testing in South Africa.

New in 2026
Meet the Slimline 3
Dometic's new roof rack is the first product in the Front Runner Series. It went on pre-order in South Africa in August 2026.
20% lower than Slimline II
The Slimline 3 sits lower on the roof than the rack it replaces and has no raised lip around the edge. Dometic says that means less drag and less wind noise.
Move slats without taking it apart
Single slats can be added or removed without taking the rack apart, and dual T-slots take mounts anywhere along them.
Wiring hidden in the frame
Cables for lights and accessories run inside channels in the rack, so there are no loose wires on the roof.
Stainless parts and corner tie-downs
Sheet-metal parts are 3CR12 stainless steel with black-coated stainless fasteners, and there are tie-down points built into all four corners.

Questions
What is the Dometic Front Runner Series?
It is Dometic's range of equipment for vehicle-based travel, built on Front Runner's experience. It starts with roof racks and grows into rack accessories, storage, tents, cooling and cooking. The products are made to work together.
Will a Slimline 3 fit my vehicle?
The Slimline 3 is sold as a kit for each vehicle. For Land Cruisers it is available for the Prado 250, in full and three-quarter lengths. The 300, 200, 78, 76 and 79 use Slimline II kits, listed above. Dometic's vehicle finder shows every kit for your car.
Do my Front Runner accessories work on the Slimline 3?
Dometic says the Slimline 3 works with its top-mount rack accessories, and there are new Slimline 3 parts too, like the awning and recovery board mounts above. Check the product page for your accessory to be sure.
Do I have to drill my roof?
It depends on the kit. Many Front Runner kits use the vehicle's factory mounting points or gutters, and their product pages say no drilling is needed. Some do need drilling, like the Prado 250 ladder, which needs drilling at its base. Read the fitting notes on the product page for your kit.
Where can I buy it in South Africa?
Online at dometic.com, which is now the home of Front Runner in South Africa: frontrunneroutfitters.com redirects there. For a dealer near you, contact Dometic South Africa through its support page.
What warranty do the racks have?
Dometic says all Front Runner Series racks have a 5-year warranty. The terms are on its warranty page.
