Why the 80 Series holds its value
The Land Cruiser 80 Series (sold in South Africa 1990–1998) was the first Cruiser with coil springs all round, a locking centre diff and available factory diff locks — the model that turned Land Cruiser ownership into a lifestyle. Engines were the 4.5-litre 1FZ-FE petrol six or the 4.2-litre 1HZ/1HD diesel six, both famously over-engineered. Production ended nearly three decades ago, so supply only shrinks: on any given day there are usually only a handful for sale in the whole country — 9 right now , with a median asking price of R200 000 (R95k–R499k). Clean, unmodified examples command the premium; rust and neglected diesels are the value killers.
