The Hilux range, explained
The Toyota Hilux has been South Africa's best-selling bakkie for decades, which is why the used market is the deepest in the country. The current era is the GD-6 (2016 onward, 2.4 and 2.8 GD-6 turbodiesels — including the Legend editions), while the D-4D generation before it (2.5 and 3.0 D-4D, roughly 2005–2016) remains the workhorse favourite for farm and fleet use. Double cabs carry a clear price premium over single and Xtra cabs; 4x4 versions hold value noticeably better than 4x2s. Prices here are live asking prices aggregated daily from South Africa's major listing platforms.
