A Dometic CFX5 costs R9,575 to R14,995 on Dometic’s South African site, checked on 26 October 2026. For most Land Cruiser owners, the one to buy is the CFX5 55 at R11,355.

That is the price of the box. Add the slide made for it and a cover, and the 55 comes to R18,554. That is before a second battery. Still choosing between brands? Our best camping fridge guide covers that.

We earn a small commission if you buy through our Dometic links. It never changes the price you pay.

Every CFX5 size and price

All seven are compressor fridges. That means a small motor and pump, like your fridge at home. They all run off 12V in the car and off the wall plug at home. Each has an app, a 3-year warranty and bolt-down points in the base. “DZ” means dual zone: a fridge side and a freezer side, each set on its own.

Prices on dometic.com, checked 26 October 2026. The 55IM showed out of stock on Dometic’s list that day. Check stock first.

None of the other South African stores we check sells the CFX5 today. So the live table below shows Dometic’s own prices only. It is not a store comparison.

CFX5 45

The 45 holds 72 cans and 10 big bottles, by Dometic’s count. It weighs 18.3 kg empty. It suits two people for a week, or a Prado or 300 boot with a drawer system on the floor.

It uses about 18 Ah a day on Dometic’s test, the same as the 25. The Dometic slide for the 35 and 45 costs R4,000.

45 or 55? The 55 costs R800 more. It holds 80 cans, and 13 big bottles instead of 10. It is 26 mm longer and 57 mm wider. Every braai has someone who says buy the biggest fridge you can fit. They are right. Buy the 55 unless the space says no.

CFX5 55

This is our pick for most Cruisers. It weighs 20.2 kg empty, light enough for one person to lift out at camp. It is the size to try first in a 79 load bin or canopy, or a 76 wagon on a slide. Measure before you buy.

It uses about 21 Ah a day on Dometic’s test at 32°C outside. The Dometic 55L slide is made for it and costs R4,700. The CFX5 55 cover is R2,499.

The 55IM is the same fridge with an ice maker, for R1,370 more. With the ice maker on, it uses about 40% more power. It showed out of stock on Dometic’s list on 26 October.

CFX5 75DZ

The 75DZ splits into a 45 litre fridge and a 30 litre freezer. It weighs 27 kg empty and is 892 mm long. The Dometic 75L slide costs R6,100, but it also showed out of stock.

CFX5 95DZ

The 95DZ splits into 55 litres of fridge and 39 of freezer. It costs only R300 more than the 75DZ. For that you get 19 more litres, so if it fits, buy the 95DZ. It is 70 mm longer, at 962 mm. The Dometic 95L to 100L slide costs R6,500.

One catch for both big ones: the freezer side uses a lot of power. With it running at -15°C, Dometic’s figures work out to about 59 Ah a day for the 75DZ. The 95DZ uses about 68 Ah a day. The 55 uses about 21. A family heading to Botswana needs a bigger battery or solar, not just a bigger fridge.

Weight adds up too. The 95DZ weighs 28.8 kg empty, and its slide is rated for 113 kg. Don’t stack recovery gear on top of a full one.

Measure your space before you buy, height included. Under a tonneau cover, owners have found only a few centimetres above the lid. Our drawer systems guide covers what fits under the fridge.

The slide and the full bill

Buy the Dometic slide that names your fridge. Front Runner’s own slides cost less, from R2,600, but they don’t name the CFX5. The R2,600 tray is 690 mm long inside, and a CFX5 45 is 694 mm. The 80 to 90 litre trays are shorter than a 75DZ. The Front Runner Quick Release Fridge Strap costs R259.

CFX5 vs CFX3

The CFX3 is the model before the CFX5. Dometic no longer sells it on its South African site, so you will only find it second hand or as old stock. Here is what changed, on Dometic’s own figures.

SizeCFX3 weightCFX5 weightCFX3 power useCFX5 power use

Dometic’s specs, at 12V and 32°C outside. CFX3 figures from Dometic’s UAE site, as South Africa no longer lists it.

So the CFX5 uses about a fifth less power, and it is about a kilogram lighter. The outside size is the same, so the same slides fit. Dometic also says it is up to 5 dB quieter, with a new compressor and better insulation. Both have the phone app.

When is the CFX3 the smarter buy? When a good one costs clearly less. A CFX3 55 uses about 5 Ah a day more. If your battery has room for that, a cheap CFX3 does the same job.

Is the CFX5 cheaper at other stores?

We could not find it cheaper, because we could not find it anywhere else. None of the other South African stores we check lists a CFX5 today. Buying from Dometic or a South African dealer also keeps the warranty simple.

Here is how it stacks up against other fridges of the same size today.

Power

A CFX5 55 uses about 21 Ah a day at 32°C outside. A 100Ah lithium battery runs it about four days with the car parked, and lead-acid about two. Our dual battery guide covers the second battery and solar.

Warranty and repairs in South Africa

Dometic gives 3 years on its fridges, for the person who bought it new. You claim on Dometic’s warranty page with your original slip. If Dometic approves the claim, return shipping is free. It says a replacement or refund follows within 10 business days of approval.

Dometic’s site lists no walk-in service centre. Use its dealer finder. Some owners have struggled to get Dometic parts in the past, and the CFX5 is too new here to have a track record. After the warranty, independent camp fridge repairers fix most makes.

When a National Luna or Snomaster suits you better

A National Luna is made in South Africa, with a steel body and a factory in Edenvale you can drive to. The NL 52 costs R13,200 on its own site. That is R1,845 more than a CFX5 55, and 4.2 kg heavier. If walk-in service and a steel box matter more than price and weight, buy the National Luna. Snomaster has walk-in centres in Kempton Park and Cape Town, and its 72 litre dual costs R1,896 less than the 75DZ at one store.

Which CFX5 should you buy?

  • Most Cruiser owners: the CFX5 55 and its slide.
  • Tight space, or two people: the CFX5 45.
  • A family that wants a freezer: the 95DZ if it fits, the 75DZ if it doesn’t. Budget for a bigger battery.
  • Back seat or drinks only: the 25 or 35.

Thank you to Dometic and Front Runner for the photos.
